Requirements may change. Students are responsible for checking the
admission prerequisites for each professional program to which they plan to
apply.
Pre-Medicine is not a major. Students designated Pre-Medicine are advised
to declare a degree-granting major by the time they earn 45 hours, including
transfer hours.

MEDICAL SCHOOL
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Many medical schools expect that
prerequisite coursework be completed in
the traditional university classroom
setting and not via dual credit, exam
credit, at community or junior colleges,
abroad, or electronically. Students who
have completed prerequisite coursework
outside of this preferred setting may be
required to retake or replace those
courses with upper level coursework in
the same subject. Please consult with a
Pre-Professional Health Careers Advisor
for more information.
Most medical schools also require
applicants to have completed a minimum
of 90 undergraduate semester hours at a
regionally accredited U.S. or Canadian
college or university before the
anticipated date of enrollment.
Baccalaureate degrees are highly
desirable before entrance into medical
school. However, students applying
without a baccalaureate degree who
have outstanding academic records,
demonstrate an exceptional maturity
level, perform superior on the specific
admissions tests and exhibit highly
desirable personal qualifications may be
considered for admission.
The courses listed here are considered
minimums to be eligible to apply to
medical school. Competitive applicants
frequently take additional science-based
coursework. Students who choose
degree-granting majors that do not
provide additional science courses are
encouraged to consider opportunities
such as a science minor, undergraduate
research, and/or professional
engagement.
Lastly, most medical schools require the
Medical College Admissions Test
(MCAT).
