LAGUARDIA AIRPORT WINTERSPRING 
$2 Billion In Contracts Awarded To MWBE
On November 3rd, Governor Kathy Hochul announced a
historic milestone in the transformation of LaGuardia Airport,
where a record-setting $2 billion in contracts have been
awarded to Minority-and Women-Owned Business Enterprises,
which is the largest participation by MWBE firms at any public-
private partnership project in New York State history. The
project has also demonstrated a significant focus on working
with locally-based contractors and vendors; $775 million in
contracts have been awarded to Queens-based local business
enterprises. The announcement was made at the community
office of the LaGuardia Redevelopment project, located at
98-12 Astoria Boulevard in East Elmhurst, where Lieutenant
Governor Brian Benjamin joined Port Authority of New York
and New Jersey Executive Director Rick Cotton, Assemblyman
Jeffrion Aubry, and other members of the airport community.
LGA Redevelopment Internships
LGA Redevelopment works with The New York City
Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD)
to offer employment opportunities through the Summer
Youth Employment (SYEP) and the Work Learn Grow (WLG)
Programs. Participants have the opportunity to explore their
interests, develop workplace skills and engage in learning.
Vaughn College Internships
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, in partnership
with Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology, have created
the free tuition four-year LaGuardia Redevelopment Opportunity
Scholarship. The 4-year full tuition scholarship has been awarded
to 11 local students and includes paid summer internships with a
guaranteed Port Authority Aviation job upon graduation. It is part
of the agency’s ongoing commitment to provide opportunities
for members of the local Queens communities to share in the
economic benefits of LaGuardia Airports redevelopment program.
LGA Terminal B Wins Unescos Prestigious 2021 Prix Versailles
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is pleased to announce that LGA Terminal B has won
UNESCO’s 2021 Prix Versailles, the global architecture and design award, for best new airport in the
world. This prestigious award fulfills the agency’s promise to transform what was once regarded as
the nations worst airport into a world-class facility ranking among the best in the world.
New Little League Ball Fields
The LaGuardia Airport community joined together on
November 20th to celebrate the “ground-breaking”
for all new ball fields at Elmjack Little League. “We
look forward to seeing the final product next Spring,
and hope that this safe space stays that way for years
to come,” said Tony Vero, LGA General Manager.
Joining Vero was New York State Senator Jessica
Ramos; New York City Council Member Tiffany Caban;
former Council Member & Variety Boys and Girls
Club CEO Costa Constantinides; and Skanska Senior
Vice President, Scott Silverman. Skanska will lead a
$1.2 million project to renovate the ball fields which
are located adjacent to the airport. Construction is
expected to be completed in time for the 2022 little
league season. The Elmjack Little League fields opened
in 1953 and are still used regularly nearly 70 years later.
Completion of LGA Terminal B
On January 27th, Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams,
and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Executive
Director Rick Cotton, and Chairman Kevin O’Toole along with
Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, City Council
Speaker Adrienne Adams, and LaGuardia Gateway Partners CEO
Frank Scremin celebrated the opening of the western skybridge,
the last major milestone in Terminal B’s $4B transformation.
The completion and the opening of LaGuardia Terminal B’s
western skybridge, and the opening in December of phase 2 of
Terminal B’s second concourse, means that every arriving and
departing passenger at Terminal B will now experience newly
built, 21st century architecture and facilities from gate to curb.
With the completion of the second pedestrian bridge, which will
span an active aircraft taxiway, Terminal B also becomes the
world’s first airport with dual pedestrian skybridges.

Please join us for a webinar presented by the
New York State Workers’ Compensation Board.
As a business owner, you may have questions about
whether you are required to have workers’ compensation,
disability benefits and Paid Family Leave insurance. This
webinar will help you gain a better understanding of all
three insurance types, explain coverage requirements,
and inform you of your obligations under the law.
Business owners often ask:
What is workers’ compensation, disability, and Paid
Family Leave?
Who needs it? Who does not need it?
How and when do you report an injury or illness
(including the impact of COVID-19)?
Are employers responsible for independent
contractors, laborers and domestic workers?
What are the considerations when hiring independent
contractors, laborers and domestic workers?
What are the penalties? Where do you go for
assistance regarding this or other issues?
How can you lower your premiums?
