UK Core Composition & Communication Requirements
How can they be fulfilled before arriving at UK?
Course Credit/Placement Informationthe following credits will be applied when the student
enrolls at the University of Kentucky as noted below:
Student earns score of 3 on AP exam for English Language & Composition =
3 credits awarded for departmental elective - WRD 100-level credit awarded
(Does not satisfy any portion of the Composition & Communication requirement.)
Student earns score of 4 or 5 on AP exam for English Language & Composition =
3 credits awarded for departmental elective WRD 100-level credit awarded
(Does not satisfy any portion of the Composition & Communication requirement.)
Does allow placement into CIS/WRD 112.
Student earns score of 3 or 4 on AP exam for English Literature & Composition =
3 credits awarded for departmental elective ENG 100-level credit awarded
(Does not satisfy any portion of the Composition & Communication requirement.)
Student earns a score of 5 on AP exam for English Literature & Composition =
3 credits awarded for ENG 230
(Does not satisfy any portion of the Composition & Communication requirement.)
Satisfies the UK Core Humanties Requirement.
Student completes the equivalent of ENG 101 and ENG 102 via transfer/dual credit must
enroll in COM 252, COM 281 or COM 287 (Student earns transfer credit for ENG 101 and ENG
102). Students who have completed both English courses and the equivalent of one of the
COM courses listed will have satisfied the Composition and Communication UK Core
requirement. At minimum, it is advised for students to complete both ENG 101 and 102 before
arriving at UK if they do begin to take dual/transfer credit
Student completes the equivalent of ENG 101 via transfer/dual creditmust enroll in
CIS/WRD 110 upon entering UK
Students who have a score of 32 or above on the English component of the ACT, a score
of 720 or above on the SAT I Verbal receive placement into CIS/WRD 112.
No credit is awarded for CIS/WRD 110/111.
