UK Student Visa Guide 2022
Please check with the British consular authority in your region for the most updated visa requirements and processes
for the United Kingdom (UK). The information listed below is intended as informational guidance only and does not
constitute legal advice.
All students are required to apply for a Student Visa
prior to arrival in order to participate in NUBound at NCH in the UK.
If you are unsure if you require a visa, please check with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) to confirm if you need a UK
visa . This tool also provides an overview of the applicable visa process and details about supporting documentation
requirements.
Student Visa Required Documents & Information
Please note that the below list of required documents and information is not exhaustive. All students should confirm any
supporting documentation requirements directly with the British consular authority responsible for their country of
residence.
Mandatory Documents
1. A valid passport with at least one blank page (front and back) in the visa section; your passport should be valid
at the time of your arrival in the UK.
2. CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies). New College of the Humanities (NCH) will provide you with a
Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) . You cannot apply for the student visa without this document.
3. Proof of adequate financial means to support yourself for your stay in the UK. Please note, supporting letters
from Northeastern may not fulfill the ‘financial’ requirement and you must submit proof of adequate financial
means in the form of recent bank statements and the following documents;
- Birth certificate (if you are using your parents’ bank statement)
- Parent’s consent letter (if you are using your parents’ bank statement) Or
- Evidence of official financial sponsorship (if you are sponsored)
4. Qualifications (final transcripts and/or certificates) listed on your CAS letter.
5. English language test or qualification listed on your CAS (if applicable)
6. Tuberculosis Test Results (if applicable), if you are required to submit them as part of the application process.

Immigration Health Surcharge: You will not be able to edit your visa application once you are on to the IHS
website. You will be asked to re-enter your course start and end date again on the IHS website and answer some
other questions. Use the course start date and the expected end date stated on your CAS letter

7. Contact details of a parent or legal guardian in your home country, if you are under 18 years old at the time of
application.

11. Accommodation Details and Payments. Northeastern will provide you with proof of enrollment, as well as a
letter verifying that your tuition and housing are pre-paid and guaranteed. The proof of enrolment is not a visa
letter and you must obtain a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) letter before you apply for your
student visa.
12. Additional Information: You can add anything here if you think is relevant to your application. Especially, where
you were unable to answer one of the application questions in the field provided.

Please be sure to retain a copy of all of the mandatory documents with you during your travels and keep them
throughout your time in the UK. Please also be sure to have available a copy of your round-trip flight itinerary to satisfy
the immigration officer that you intend to leave the UK at the end of your program.

1. Complete the Student Visa
application.
2. Select a country to provide your biometrics: Enter the country in which you are making your
application and wish to provide your biometrics. Please note, this must be your home
country, or a country where you are currently legally residing.
3. Review the Declaration: You must confirm the information you provided is correct, and you
accept the privacy policy and terms and conditions.
4. Submit your application.
Choose a Visa Application Center or Application Support Center (will vary depending on where
you are applying)
VFS Global and TLS’s application services vary around the world and your options will be
dependent upon the country from which you are applying. Please check the application process
in your home country for information on arranging appointment by visiting
UKVI's listing of visa
application centers by country.
Choose an Application Center and Appointment
During the application process, you will be prompted to book an appointment at the nearest visa
application centre (VAC) or application support center (ASC) to have your biometric data
(fingerprints and photograph) taken and to submit your biometric data and application
documents.
Appointment availability varies by location; the waiting period may be 2 weeks or more.
Prepare all of your application materials prior to your biometrics appointment to ensure
that you will be able to submit your application following your appointment.
Students who have to attend a VAC must bring their original passport and all their
supporting documentation with them to the VAC.
If attending an ASC in the U.S., you can upload any supporting documents before your
appointment and will then need to mail your passport and endorsed appointment
confirmation to the UKVI scanning hub.
Pay for Application
Available payment methods vary by country and your options will be listed in the application.
Visa fees vary by location, so please refer to the UKVI website on visa fees
for further
information.
Print Application
Please be sure to print a copy of your application as you will need this for your biometrics
appointment and visa application submission.
Confirmation Email
You should receive a confirmation email that may contain the following information:
Your appointment details
Your unique application reference number (GWF number)
Barcode that will be scanned at your appointment to confirm your attendance
Supporting document checklist
You must print this information and bring it to your biometric appointment. Please also be sure
to make copies of all documents for your records.

Visit the VAC/ASC and
Attend Your Biometric
Appointment
Biometric Appointment
At the VAC/ASC, you will also need to submit your fingerprints and photograph. This is known as
biometric information collection.
When attending your appointment:
Arrive at least 15 minutes early
Bring a printed copy of your visa application and the biometric appointment
confirmation.
Bring your passport with at least 1 page that is blank on both sides.
If attending a VAC, bring all supporting documentation (originals and copies), sorted
and separated according to your biometric appointment confirmation.
Please Note: At the appointment, please ensure the appointment confirmation page with the
barcode is stamped. If attending an ASC, you will need to mail this with your passport for
processing, as noted above.
If attending a VAC, you may need to submit your application package, including application form,
biometric confirmation form, passport (with required available blank pages), and any other
supporting documents at your appointment. You may also have the option of uploading your
documents before your appointment therefore please check options when submitting your
online form. Please note that some VAC’s will charge an additional fee for scanning documents at
the appointment. Please confirm with the applicable ASC/VAC for further information on
specific submission instructions which may vary by location.
Please remember to confirm the date by which your submission must be received by the relevant
consular authority with the ASC/VAC through which you enroll your biometrics.

Submit Your
Application Materials
Document Checklist
After your biometric appointment, you will need to submit your materials to the relevant
consular authority. Please be sure to confirm directly with your consular authority all required
documentation, as this may vary by location. Generally, Low-Risk country nationals do not need
to provide any documents apart from a valid passport. Some of these documents include, but are
not limited to, the following:
Passport: You must submit your original and valid passport.
Biometric Appointment Confirmation Page: This is the page with a barcode that was
stamped at your biometric appointment.
Letter of Support from Northeastern: Please keep this letter safe for the duration of
your studies, as you will need it when you enter the UK and also if you are eligible to
travel outside the UK during your studies.
Proof of Finances: A bank statement or bank letter showing any money you will have
available to use during your stay in the UK. If bank letter or statement is from a parent’s
and/or legal guardian’s account, you will also need a signed and dated letter confirming
your relationship and the permission to use the money for your studies in the UK.
Translations: All supporting documents that are not in English may need to be officially
translated by a certified translator. If required by your consular authority, you will likely
need to submit original documents as well as the original, certified translation. Please
confirm the need for translations directly with your local consular authority.
Shipping Information (if applicable)
Students must follow the submission instructions given by your selected VAC/ASC and local
consular authority.
This may include purchasing service packages with specific shipping and submitting instructions
by your particular VAC/ASC. Please confirm this process directly with your VAC/ASC, as
submission instructions may vary by location.
Processing Time
Please follow the guidance provided by your local consular authority when submitting your
application.
General processing times range from 3 to 6 weeks. Please note that certain countries may have
longer processing times than this.
Please remember that during this time, you WILL NOT have access to your passport for personal
international travel so please plan accordingly.
