How to Save an Excel File as a Tab Delimited File
For Excel versions 2013 and newer

The Malt and Vinous Distribuon Report is saved as an Excel le on the Vermont Department of Taxes website.
This is done so that the template will automacally open in Microso Excel®. However, once you have nished
populang the spreadsheet with your distribuon informaon, you need to save the le in a
tab delimited text le format before aaching it to the myVTax webpage at the me of ling. If you need

Following are the steps to save the le in a tab delimited text le format. Remember that you should only
perform these steps aer you have nished populang the spreadsheet with your distribuon informaon.

Open the Malt and Vinous Spreadsheet
From the
completed Malt
and Vinous
Spreadsheet
saved on your
computer, clike
the File tab.

Excel Opons
Click Save As.

Click Browse and
choose a locaon to
save the “new” le.
For this example we
are saving it to the
desktop.
Browse for the File

Select File Type and Save
Click the arrow next
to the le type space
to open a dropdown
list.
Select Text (Tab
delimited) (*txt) from
the dropdown list, then
click Save.
This will format the le to wherever you saved it. This example was saved to
the desktop. Now your le is ready to be uploaded into the myVTax system.
