Merit Requirements
The following merit requirements must be successfully completed for a boy to be awarded the official
green Royal Rangers Bible Knowledge merit. Content relating to each requirement may be found in the
next section of this guide.
NOTE: Requirements previously met in pursuit of the blue Bible Knowledge merit must be completed
again to satisfy the requirements for this merit.
1. Explain the history and structure of the Bible by answering the following questions:
a. What is the Bible?
b. About how many people did God inspire to write the Bible?
c. When was the Bible written?
d. How many books are there in the Bible?
e. What are the two divisions of the Bible?
f. How many books are in each of the two divisions?
g. Where did the chapter and verse designations come from?
h. Why are there so many “versions” of the Bible, and how are they different?
i. How do we know the Bible is true?
j. Who decided which books would be included in the Bible, and what criteria did they
use?
2. Demonstrate your ability to find a specific verse in the Bible when given a Bible reference.
3. Provide a scripture reference that supports the belief that the Bible was written by people
who were “inspired” by God to write His message. Then explain what it means to be
“inspired” by God.
4. Obtain your own personal copy of the Bible and identify at least 10 Bible verses that have
special meaning to you. Mark these verses in your Bible for easy identification by
highlighting, underlining, listing them inside the front or back cover, listing them on an insert
of some kind, or any other method of your choice. Digital Bibles may also be used provided
they feature a way for verses to be marked and recalled later for easy reference.
5. Quote from memory each of the following Bible verses:
a. Genesis 1:1
b. John 3:16

c. Psalm 119:11
d. Romans 3:23
e. Romans 6:23
f. 1 John 1:9
6. Read the following books in the Bible version of your choice:
a. Read (1) of the gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John
b. Genesis
c. Ephesians
d. Acts
7. Complete a minimum of (5) daily devotional Bible reading plans, such as those found in the
YouVersion Bible app or online at Bible.com. Each plan must consist of at least 4 days of
reading and must include both a devotional message and a scripture passage.
8. List and describe the four Core Doctrines of the Assemblies of God, giving scripture
references for each. If your church is not affiliated with the Assemblies of God, list the basic
beliefs of your church, including scripture references.
9. Review the material on the “ABCs of Salvation” as described in Chapter 7 of the Adventure
or Expedition Rangers Handbook or the Royal Rangers web site at “RoyalRangers.com/abc”.
Then demonstrate your ability to use this material to lead someone to Christ by presenting
it to your leader or use it to actually present Christ to another person.
