Elixir of Restoration
The key ingredient of this standard potion is the mysterious
Bacillus subtilis
. Colonies of
this important magical ingredient is exclusively found within the deepest darkest corners of the
Forbidden Forest near Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (Rowling, 2005). Mainly found
in soil and vegetation, this elusive substance discovered by Gramius Caterwalg in 1409 has inherent
healing qualities (Kramer, 2010). The morphology noted by this famous wizard is described this
cream-colored rod-shaped magical substance as occurring in flat elevation, irregular form, and
lobular or undulate margins (Leung & Liu, 2011). In order to magically restore perfect health of
human beings, a proficient potion master would take extreme care in preparing the following potion.
Failure in following these precise measurements could result in the opposite result—painful and
excruciating death.
Procedure:
-Procure half of a cauldron of warm dung from a centaur.
Bacillus subtilis
is especially found in
fecal matter large magical creatures consuming plants from the Forbidden Forest (Kramer, 2010).
-Add one large slug and water from the lake on the grounds of Hogwarts. The slime of the slug

-Laugh raucously while stirring the sludge 5 times clockwise and 3 times counterclockwise,
and blow on it twice.
-Drop in 2 to 3 violet crystals, a splash of iodine, a half-drop of ethanol, and an ounce of
safranin, spitting four times in the cauldron between the additions. By this time, the mixture
should be a purple color, indicating that it is Gram-positive.
-Add a bezoar and simmer at low heat intensity for a fortnight. Perform step 3 daily.
-After the fortnight, stir in a vial of each carbolfuchsin, acid-alcohol, and methylene blue.
Because it is nonacid-fast, the potion shall turn a bluish hue.
-Slowly add 5 ounces of Malachite green and the vitreous humor of a hippogriff. Boil
vigorously, then add a vial of safranin. This step will differentiate between the endospore (green) and
the vegetative cell (pink) of
Bacillus subtilis
.
-At exactly midnight, add 2 spoonfuls of blood from a mature unicorn and 4 drops of
phoenix tears.
-The potion at this point should now be ready to drink. Only consume one vial per severe
injury, due to its concentration.
